History

Relais del Pievano is located in Cafaggio, along the Suveretana way, that connects the villages of Venturina Terme and Suvereto and existing in ancient times.  The Cafaggio territory is said it was part of property of a branch of langobard Gherardesca family.

Probably the district rises as rest area, for the travellers and horses direct to Suvereto.

The property renovation revealed two important marble gravestones.

The first one is a medieval decoration to be defined, probably part of a bigger ornament and intended to separate the central aisle of the church and altar area. That suggests that the building was built just on or in the surroundings of an ancient ecclesiastical building.

The second one is probably a funerary  epigraph, dates back to XIII century where the Campiglia’s Pievano is mentioned, from which the B&B gets the name.

The owners, agree with the cultural heritage superintendence, asked to Dott.ssa Giovanna Bianchi of Siena University, competent in history of Campiglia area, to carring out reserch on this theme.

Recently it is believed that the building was a lazaretto, with a neighbouring cemetery, and in nineteenth-century, the building, transformed by volumetric expansion, it is called Fattoria del Mancino.

Mancino’s Family owns most of fileds in that area and used the farm for the storage of products (wine, oil and cereals).

The farm was devided and taken over by who worked there and sold recently like holidays house.

The current owners buy the first section in 2008 and the second one in 2016, starting the renovation personally with love and passion. Proud of their work, they decided to open the door their home to you.
